The big day was Monday and the place was crawling with people as Nickel Bros. showed up to lower the house.
The crew was really organized and it came together pretty quickly. They put jacks into the cribbing on platforms they built with huge beams just pushed through the cribs. These are all hooked up to the truck and i guess that synchronizes everything. They lifted it up a bit, took away a row of the supports, then gently lowered it down on the foundation keeping some of the weight on the beams.
When it came down it was twisted a little so there were some hurried conversations and they worked some magic to twist it back into alignment. It isn’t 100% but you really have to look to be able to tell. Once it was straight, the builders put up more sheathing to attach the house to the walls they built last week to bring everything to full strength. Once that was down they lowered it the rest of the way, pulled the beams out the front of the house, and packed everything up.
This is a pretty huge milestone and it feels great to have it done but there is still a lot of work to do and i am starting to stress about the timeline. And the budget to be honest.
The rest of the week was pretty productive for the team. The addition and back deck is coming together nicely and the front porch/suite entrance walls are all framed in. The weather has taken a turn and we have had some snow but it doesn’t seem to have slowed them down.
I was poking about on the weekend and was happy to see the light coming in through the french doors in the winter goes more than half way back in the suite! That will be a huge bonus and i think will be a key feature.
