Winter seems to have finally arrived and the rain and snow have started. We shouldn’t complain though as it has been far too dry this year. I am just glad i am not out there hammering up walls.
The extension floor is all in and a temporary surface is down on the deck so the walls went up this week for the dining area extension. You can now walk around in it and get a better sense of the space.
We have made a few changes to the doors and windows on the back. I’ll try and do a post about that whole ordeal later but basically we have changed from extra tall doors and matching sidelights to standard height doors and 5 foot sidelights as separate windows. We also added casements at the top of the sidelights so we can get airflow without having the doors open. One thing we are not entirely certain about is the height of the clerestory window but we have time to think about that still.
The walls are all built to modern code and i am very excited to have proper insulation. They are going to build out the exterior walls in the kitchen as well to bring them up to code. For 17 years we have had a cold kitchen in the winter with no insulation along the west wall. Now we will have R22! Whoop! Whoop!
