One of the features of our renovation is that our laundry/mechanical room is mostly under our deck. This means we have a flat roof and i learned this week that a flat roof is anything but flat. I had anticipated that the entire thing would just slope away from the house but it is actually a lot more complex than that.
The roof has two drainage points so slopes in two directions but they aren’t just simple slopes. They are more like funnels directing the water to where the drains will be. This will all be covered with torch on and then our deck will be built on top of this and designed to drain through.
They also built a sill which will get the torch on up and over and then be flashed. The drains will be knocked through this. The sill serves to vent the roof structure.
I wish i had visited a bit more to get photos while they were doing it all but i gotta say, i am really impressed!
