Not much happened this week. The architect came by on Monday with the magic stickers from the AIBC for our contract. These have to be ordered from the AIBC and i guess they are part of the registration of our contract and likely protects him and us under the terms of the professional association. Magic stickers make it all official and only members that know the handshake (and pay their fees) can get them. Even with the sticker he can’t do much until our house is measured and we get the as-built drawings that they will generate. We heard from Measure Masters late in the week and they are coming by on Tuesday to do their magic scanning so at least that will allow us to move forward a bit. We are also waiting for the survey which will inform some of our choices.
We talked with the architect about the cedar siding on the basement when he was here. If you recall we talked to another family that wanted to salvage their siding but were not allowed because of fire abatement rules. Apparently that rule depends on how close your house is to either the property line, or the neighbours house. I don’t recall which. The magic number is 1.2 meters and our fence is 1.21 meters from the side of our house. I hope it is on the property line… We are realizing that we shouldn’t get too anchored on any one idea because it all depends on what the rules are. We will have to wait and see.
In the meantime Sarah is enjoying her garden and starting to stress about salvaging and transplanting. I am putting in a few hours every weekend pulling shingles and am making some good progress on the west side.
