Saturday started with a quick trip to the dump to drop off another 345 kg of shingles. My plan of starting the bagging last weekend, doing a bit more during the week, and loading the car friday night (what else am i going to be doing? It’s a pandemic after all) made it much easier than the last trip. Doing it right the first time also helped. The nice lady at the dump also told me that during the pandemic i can bring out bigger loads if i want to reduce the trips. I am not sure i’d want to take out more because chucking 10 34 kg bags into the bin is pretty much my limit. I might try taking 12 but i am not going to try and get much more in the poor Jetta. She also told me that I can put more than 10 kg of used drywall into the bags which is a big relief as 100 kg a trip was going to mean burning a lot of gas. It is always a good idea to talk to the nice folks at the landfill!
Despite a couple of of the longest sessions i have ever done on the back i didn’t quite get it done. A lot of it was awkward to get at so each shingle that came down meant a trip down the ladder. I got some help from our neighbour, Bruce, who had some scaffolding stashed under his deck. No, he is not in the trades, he just happened to get some that he was happy to lend. I am not sure if it saved a ton of time because Sunday afternoon we spent an hour or so setting it up, and once done, i am going to just have to take it down again. I definitely felt a lot safer working on the scaffolding through and that was worth it. He also leant me an adjustable ladder to i was able to build a bit of a catwalk. It was sketchy as hell and the 2×6 lumber i used got a bit slippery when it started to rain and one board sagged alarmingly causing me to slide more than once. I decided to call it quits when the rain started for real and left a disappointingly small amount of shingles still on the wall.
