I spent Monday and Tuesday mostly mopping and cleaning up after stripping the ceiling because my father was moving this weekend and i was going to Victoria to help a bit. With Sarah getting home next week i had a lot on my plate to make the place tidier. It was nice to get on my bike and get away for a bit even if moving and unpacking isn’t the most relaxing thing. It was great to see my father, sister, and sister in law in person instead of WhatsApp and to be able to hug family. Dad has had both his shots and the rest of us had our first shots more than 3 weeks ago. It almost felt normal. He had hired professionals to do the pack and move so it wasn’t too bad. We had some good meals and a few beers among the boxes.
The only real work on the reno we did was some back and forth with the architect about the size of the front patio. We had raised it as a concern earlier but had never asked for dimensions. Now that the plans are going in for preliminary approval and everything else is sorted (except maybe those extra windows) it became that last detail we had to get sorted.
Innes the architect had planned it as 13.5′ with a path in front putting it 16 feet out into the front yard. I measured it out with stakes and took some photos for Sarah so we could get a sense of it and realized that a patio that size will take up the majority of the front yard. I know we are planning on sharing our space with tenants but we hadn’t planned on losing the entire yard. We are hoping to be able to keep some lawn and garden out there. We sent Innes our concerns and settled on a 9 ft deep patio. We are still considering the path and will likely have it right beside the patio with the garden bed on the south side of it rather than between the path and the patio.
