Yeah. I’m a weekend warrior and it was hot as hell in Vancouver as a heat dome settled in over much of BC. I didn’t really do anything productive on the house. Sarah got back from Ontario and was reasonably satisfied with the cleanliness of the house. She was a bit taken aback by the reality of the gaping hole in the kitchen where the chimney used to be despite having seen the photos.
I managed a quick training hike to St. Marks Summit with friends (about 11 km and 500m gain with a full pack) on Saturday before riding to a birthday party in the afternoon and meeting Sarah for a dinner at Nuba after work. Saturday we cleared out the shelves in the laundry room and setup a mattress downstairs and basically just sheltered from the heat. Feeling really good about our plan to spring for the heat pump to help heat and cool the upstairs. We also hope that insulation and low-e windows that open in the living room and better windows will get us better airflow and reduce how much our house heats up. Right now the only way to get air through our house front to back is to leave the front door open and the screen door latched but that isn’t going to stop anyone. Upstairs is still going to be a problem but at least the main floor should be tolerable.
