Between camping last weekend, busy times at work, and a trip to Victoria this weekend to help my dad prep his garage to make room for his Bentley, we didn’t get a lot of work done on the house. Things did move forward a bit though. The architect met with the city to get preliminary feedback on the drawings and made a few changes based on their advice.
The Project Coordinator (PC) at the city recommended we get rid of the back entrance to the suite as it is 90% likely to get rejected at the building permit stage. I am fine with that as it makes the path on the west side of the house much easier not to mention gives us back a bunch of space that would have been lost to the entry way. Not a dramatic change but we get more kitchen storage in the form of a pantry cupboard. I am not entirely sure whether that is a shelf or counter on the back wall.
We also learned that we can’t have a railing around the front basement patio. This will require us to terrace the landscaping so that we don’t just have a 4′ drop. This is a bit of a drag because it means we lose more front yard. We enjoy sitting out there on summer evenings and have used it a lot during the pandemic. When we look back though this only started recently when we salvaged an old patio table from the back alley. We also haven’t been using the back deck for a few years because of the rot and perilously spongy feeling you get when you walk on it. Once we have the reno done we should be able to get furniture and be able to sit on the deck or in the yard so i suppose it isn’t much of a loss.
