After a lazy birthday morning I jumped back in to the demolition for a bit on Saturday afternoon. I managed to get more drywall off in full sheets without creating too much mess. This gives me a decent quantity to stick to the ceiling for the noise abatement i want to do and also by getting off full sheets it kept the dust down. I have my technique worked out pretty well.
It was interesting to discover a tongue and groove (t&g, not to be confused with g&t which is much tastier) fir wall UNDER the drywall. It seems a shame to cover it up with drywall but i guess drywall was more modern so cover it they did. It was heartbreaking to take down all that great fir because i couldn’t get it apart without damaging it.
I didn’t do a lot of demo (in fact i hadn’t meant to do any) because Don and Jamie were coming down for the the Third Annual Labour Day Old Friends Bike Tour (AKA: LDOFBT). We still have a spare bed in the main room down there so we wanted to leave the space usable for them. I probably spent almost as much time tidying as i did doing actual demolition but it was well worth it.
Sunday i did the shopping and when Don and Jamie arrived we made an Indian feast with homemade pakoras, butter chicken, a red lentil dahl, rice, roti, and papadams. It was awesome and a perfect low key afternoon and evening catching up and having some laughs.
Monday was the LDOFBT and this year we went out to Boundary Bay and rode along the dike out there. I think we put in over 20 km just riding along talking and smelling the ocean. We did Stanley Park the first year and last year we rode from here to Steveston which was over 50 km return which was a little much. Hoping we can do the 4th Annual LDOFBT in a new house and feast in a new kitchen next year!
Before they left Tuesday, Don helped me bring up the mattress from downstairs and get rid of the old inherited mattress we had on the bed in the back bedroom. We moved the queen sized bed up and took apart and moved my grandmothers bed upstairs to store it for now. While i love the bed, the mattress was awful and i have wanted to buy a new one for ages. With the reno though the last thing we wanted was another mattress to worry about storing so this kills two birds with one stone. The queen size bed is a bit big for the back bedroom but oh well.
