This weekend was mostly tidying the place as the builder is ready to get started. I took the opportunity of having an empty basement to finish up the soundproofing with a bunch of strips i had cut a few months ago. We had enough to get the ceiling under the back bedroom done and i finished up some under the front bedroom that only had a single layer. I am not sure how much this will really help in the end, but it is better than hauling it to the dump. And speaking of the dump i took my last load of drywall bags out to Delta! I barely managed to get it all into the special bags i had left and i have to admit that part of my motivation to finishing the soundproofing was to avoid buying more drywall disposal bags. All in all i took out almost 700 kg of drywall waste.
I also took the last load of cellulose insulation and plaster out to Delta with a bunch of wood that i realised i was never going to use. The second trip was much less nerve wracking than last time. I went first thing in the morning which is always easier. I discovered that at Delta they have a separate bin for wood waste which was pretty cool. They chip it all up and i assume use it for fuel of some sort. I was wracked with guilt (well, maybe not wracked) that i have taken so much scrap wood to the NSTS and it is just ending up in the regular dump. It seems like an easy addition to have a bin for wood on the North Shore. In the end though the carbon of all of my trips to Delta would have offset any benefit from reusing the material.
We also salvaged our cast iron laundry sink which we want to use as a garden sink once this is all over. Ric came over to help and the thing was heavy. It isn’t in great shape and too low for my comfort but will be a nice addition to a potting bench for Sarah and we can hook a hose up to it.
Due to some miscommunication with the BigSteelBox folks, we still have the container here but it should be going this week.
