The pros moved in this week and setup their base of operations in what used to be our kitchen. It is amazing how much a small team can get done when they are at it all day. I have to remind myself that all the work i have done was not to save time, but money. Looking at what they have done it seems like the last year of work i did might have saved us a week or maybe two on the timeline. I am really am stunned. We are focusing on prep work and trying to keep it low key because we are still waiting on the final building permit. My work is basically done and we are mostly observers.
I stopped by after work and the addition was gone. I think technically it took a couple of days because they left a little bit on the first day but basically, it vanished. The windows came out and are all boarded over too.
They marked out where the supports for the lift have to go and painted big squares on our floors. They were a bit surprised when they rented a big concrete saw and discovered that the floor was only about an inch thick. We had warned them that we have literally dropped a hammer and left a hole in the floor so we weren’t too surprised. I am looking forward to having a proper slab with a bit of insulation and gravel under it!
Things got even more exciting when they brought a little digger into the basement. They have to dig down 4 feet and that is a long way to go by hand. Water has started to come up in the holes which is a bit worrying to Sarah and I but they don’t seem too worried about it.
My work on the weekend was pretty limited. I did a dump run getting rid of more of the lumber i had hoped to salvage and other crap left laying around. They had a pro come in during the week and take out most of the wood from the addition which was probably a lot more efficient. I also crawled around the piles of dirt and the holes and pulled more wire and pipes from the basement and Sarah and i did a last run to Burnaby with plants before she leaves.
