It was great to see the form work coming together when i got back. There is a lot to do and i am always hoping it can go a little faster but there are some things that feel like milestones. We are now building instead of demolishing. And it is a lot of building. It all has to be at the right height and level across the entire site. It also has to be strong enough to not blow apart when the concrete is poured.
The forms are below the slab of the floor. I have to keep reminding myself that we dug way down. I think the floor is actually going to be something like 18″ above the base of the footings. Dean is trying to decide if we are going to pour the footings and the walls separately or if we will do the whole thing at once. I guess it something to do with the height of the foundation at the front of the house. Because we are on a sloped lot, the foundation walls at the front are a lot taller than at the back so while most of it under 5 feet, the front is more like 6+. I’ll leave that decision up to him as i can’t really contribute meaningfully to that conversation.
It is also great to have the sump in position. I don’t know why that feels great. Maybe because it is big and permanent looking. I really have a hard time thinking in 3d and envisioning where things are going to end up so i hope we made the right decision and we don’t have the sump in the middle of our path. The thing is ugly and we will have to put a planter or something on it.
Spent Sunday hanging out with my cousin Andrew in his backyard out in Tsawwassen. It is a great space and really makes me look forward to having our reno done.
