Finally!
We had expected this to happen while we were away but with the 5 week concrete strike at the start of the summer things are a little backed up.
This is the first of three pours that we are going to do and it covers all of the footings and the majority of the foundation walls. We will do another pour in a few weeks around the front and back patios using architectural forms which leave a smoother finish. The slab will get poured after the house is back down and the jenga blocks are gone.
It started first thing with a huge pump truck that was able to pump the concrete up and over the house! That was awesome. It was a lot of work and a pretty long day for everyone involved.
We are also getting designs done for the sprinklers. We have to sprinker the entire house which is a real drag. We don’t want to damage the plaster lathe ceilings on the main floor, and upstairs, we have a tongue and groove ceiling and not enough space to have the pipes in the ceiling. We will have to keep the pipes on the ceiling and we don’t even have a full height ceiling. We had hoped to avoid this. It was part of our quote from the builder so is “in the budget” but the budget has been blown up long ago. We had hoped to be able to limit the sprinklers to just the new parts of the house. We had talked to another couple a few blocks away that had done a similar lift and they hadn’t had to do their entire house. Turns out they likely go away with that because their house has lots of room on all sides. Our house is non-conforming on the east side.
On the weekend i got to contribute a bit on the house and knocked the tabs off of a bunch of the form ties. I only did it for a couple of hours but it was satisfying. I couldn’t actually remove the forms though because they are nailed at the base and, well, i am lazy.
Oh! And Sarah has COVID.
