The damp proofing got inspected so now we are starting on the perimeter drains. It started with bringing in a bunch of gravel and now all the pipes are getting bedded in. This all has to be properly sloped towards the front and is much more complex than just gluing up a bunch of pipes. I stopped by a few times and the guys were hauling buckets of gravel to position everything and the surveyor was lining everything up.
There seem to be two sets of pipes. One for downspouts and one set for the groundwater. The groundwater pipes sit at the level of the footings and are actually below where the slab will be so hopefully will drain the groundwater coming up under the foundation. The drain at the back entrance patio is in place and that is the point that required us to raise the floor 6″ so that we had enough slope to the sewer on the front street.
Time is marching on and it is obvious we will not be back in before Christmas which is disappointing but with the permit delays costing a month and the concrete strike it isn’t really a surprise at this point. Crews are at our house every day but sometimes i wish there were more guys working everyday so we could move a bit faster. Drains won’t be finished until next week and then will have to be inspected before we can backfill.
We also started to do a bit of shopping for finishes as we start to think about flooring and cabinets. That isn’t stressful at all.
