I am sure this was not a fun week for the builders but i am pretty happy to see wood arriving.
You might recall that because we moved the load bearing wall in the basement we need to sister up and extend the flooring joists on the west side of the basement so that they extend to the new wall. This finally happened.
You might also remember that my father and I glued and screwed a bunch of drywall to the ceiling between the joists to help with soundproofing. If i had stuck with the original plan of just doing the area under the main bedroom then it wouldn’t have been a problem but since it was so much fun (it really wasn’t) we almost did the entire basement. On discovering the engineer needed us to double up the joists, i had to cut strips out of the drywall to make room. This was a huge, dusty, pain in the ass, neck, and most of my upper body. It also looks like i didn’t cut out quite enough as i am finding chunks of drywall in the garbage pile.
They also attached most of the sill plates that they will build the walls on and i am excited that we will have a house actually attached the foundation. They also sorted out the joists through the old chimney hole and brought in more gravel
I got up into the house for the first time in long time and discovered some cracks in the plaster. We expected this and they are not large. I am hoping that they will close up when the house goes back down but even if they don’t, we will patch and paint them and it will just be part of the character.
