Happy new year!
Sarah and i left town for a week and went to the island to visit family and friends and spent a quiet Christmas in Ucluelet on the west coast of Vancouver Island. The building crew was going to be putting up the rafters for the roof but the weather did not co-operated and it dropped to -16 and the city was paralysed with snow. Dean texted me to let me know that they were unable to work and he was calling the week off. They had already planned to be off the week after Christmas so this is a stressful setback.
Before we left i had a chat with Dean about the fact we need to get back into the house ASAP. We were wildly naive about how long the project would take and had hoped to be back in for the holiday. We have known for a while that we wouldn’t be, but i had to make it clear that we cannot afford to keep paying rent and for the renovation. It doesn’t help that interest rates have climbed all year so the carrying costs of the project are higher than anticipated. We will be focusing the work on things needed to get us back in by April 1st. He tells me that this is a reasonable target so we should line up flooring and cabinets for March. Fingers crossed. Every week counts at this point.
